About Us

Soul Search Inc. was formed by Carol Kafka to help people write their life story. Soul Search is the distributor of Carol’s books and videos.

“Many people have told me that they always knew they would write their stories some day. And I was happy to work with my students to help them do just that. What we did not expect however was how the process changed their lives by giving them a new sense of its value. The process seems to give people a new purpose – a kind of super reality where they realize just how valuable they are to this world. It is a validation that only a life review can muster. They seem to be filled with a new enthusiasm for life itself.

I have also heard people say that now – sometimes with many tears – they have been able to forgive the people of their past and put it all behind instead of being bitterly haunted by it everyday. What a healing tribute to their own courage!”
Carol Kafka, author.

Carol was inspired while teaching creative writing at St John’s University in Queens, New York by John Garcia an 80 year old man, who wanted to write his autobiography but did not know where to begin.

Carol began working with him one on one. “I soon realized how daunting the need to write his story was for him and would be for others. So I decided to volunteer to teach at a senior citizens center in New Rochelle, so I could practice and perfect the necessary steps.”

Out of several classes, came her foolproof method, which was quickly followed by her workbook and video. Carol went on to teach at the Learning Annex in New York and the Wainwright House in Rye. She also teaches at the Mamaroneck Continuing Education program and various private venues.

Here is what people are saying about Carol and her workbook:

“I could not have written the manuscript without Kafka’s method. Her workbook provided me with a launching pad from which to take off. Prior to taking the class, I had the "will" but not the "way". My ideas were like the leaves on a tree; they grew in random patterns, waved in the breeze, and fell without purpose. Kafka’s method provided me with the rake and lawn bags.”

Melanie Cane

“The class was invaluable! As a former teacher I feel I am qualified to grade Carol an A++.”

Frieda Goodwin

“Where to begin is always the challenge. The directives – the cues provided to stimulate recollection were invaluable for me. I actually got started!”

Joan Boyd

“The most intriguing exercise I found to be the “fairy tale”. In that spontaneous writing I hit upon the theme of my whole book and realized how it repeated itself throughout my whole life. The invitation to reflect and record those reflections is the best gift this class has given me.”

Frank Blythe

“I am now immortalized!”

Neil Baker

“I always thought I was quite ordinary. I now am convinced of how important my life was and how much it counted.”

Carrie Panner
